About Gibbons Gardens

My name is Aaron, and I have a strong passion for the beautiful and alien world of exotic houseplants. As a hobby business, I grow these fascinating plants right here in Springfield!

Every plant contains at least some succulent tissue, which is tissue that stores water for periods of little or no rain.  That makes these plants a dream for anyone who loves plants but may at times forget that they need water.

Every plant available here can last anywhere from 2 weeks to a month without watering!

In addition to this, these plants are all extremely hardy and long-lived. These plants are so tough, just about the only way they can die is by freezing (water in tissue:GOOD, ice in tissue:BAD), or being watered too often (more than once a week leads to rotten roots). Even then, there are exceptions, so you can be sure, with proper care, these plants will live for many years!

All plants are locally grown and exotic. Generally my wife or I meet customers anywhere they prefer near the Missouri State University campus, so please just email with your order, and what date and time works best for you. You may also wish to leave your phone number, for easier contacting.

Cobweb Houseleek- $10

Sempervivum arachnoideum aka cobweb houseleek is a native to the European Alps. This highly prolific plant grows in rosettes of leaves that offshoot regularly, forming dense mats over time. The distinct aspect of this variation is the mesh of thin white "hair" that the plant produces, looking very much like a spiderweb. It is believed that the plant does this so that when it is snowing, the fibers create an insulating pocket of air between the plant and the ice.
These plants sit in a 4" clay pot.
